In the past, the main obstacles to success at the forefront of security were the unwillingness to take an active role in the security process and the lack of suitable tools for those who nevertheless wanted to report to their superiors about the possible risks. Nevertheless, these two limiting factors pretty quickly changed in the reality of our everyday life to the principle "if you see something, you have to say about it."
Emergencies, such as the bombings at the Boston marathon last year, conveyed to our collective consciousness the importance of greater participation in security and risk reduction. This applies to both our personal and professional lives, and for business, security has come to mean not only protecting large cones, but also personnel at all levels - and this is a very good trend.
For some time, one of the main reasons for people to hesitate to participate in the security of their organization was fear of condemnation or retaliation from employees and / or managers, or damage to the public’s attitude to a brand or company that could be at risk. In the current circumstances, these fears were largely minimized; today, those who talk about what is happening are often praised for taking action and considered good workers and good citizens in general.
Raising awareness and willingness to participate has had a positive impact on security, but there is still work to do. Unfortunately, no matter how willingly the organization and its employees take this approach to security, without the tools that are easy to use for the reporting necessary to transform theoretical readiness into action, communication will not happen.
The good news is that in the last five years there have been many systems, processes and tools that greatly facilitate the transfer of information to management for review and action. Security portals, for example, offer various reporting options, information about upcoming events and other tools that make interaction with the security service possible for each member of the corporate community.
Training. Now that these major obstacles — employee engagement and adequate tools — have been removed in recent years, education has become the final vital component to create and strengthen a collaborative environment. Most people within the corporate community should understand that the main function of the security service is to protect, not punish, but this message should be constantly and regularly communicated to people. On the technical side, in order to overcome any intimidation on the part of the staff and ensure the maximum possible indicators of adoption and use of methods among the corporate community, software tools for ensuring security should be demonstrated.
Internet of things. In addition, the previously predicted flow of information in organizations is also undergoing changes due to the phenomenon known as the Internet of Things (IOT). Sensors built into household items (refrigerators, roads, lights, etc.), combined into wired and wireless networks, can generate large amounts of data without human intervention. For example, security personnel can receive information from sensors in doors, building automation systems and systems that combine video with other technologies, as well as sensory data. This will provide decision makers with greater awareness of what is happening at the moment.
Social media. Networks and platforms, such as Twitter, also serve as a potential tool for alerts, so it’s very important that security officers not only examine them from this point of view, but also take them into service. Consumers and customers are increasingly using these channels to communicate directly with brands and companies. Most likely, the organization’s staff also use these platforms.
Human factor. Applying all these technologies, it is necessary to remember the importance of the human factor in security matters. When people work together to create a safer environment, everyone wins. Combining the right situational awareness training with the tools and resources needed to take risks and incidents into account will help build a very effective security program that will benefit the enterprise at all levels.
The more knowledge organizations will have and the more information they get from various sources, they will be able to analyze, the higher security measures will be taken in the organization. The more tools available to bring to a security strategy, the better for the organization.
“Around every corner of danger: they hid and wait” ...
This is not a horror story for the faint of heart, but the most, whatever is, fact of life: all the benefits, like a medal, always have two sides. Take life, for example. Electricity is one of the benefits that ensures the comfort of human life. And while it manifests itself as a favorite TV show, a functioning washing machine, or a kettle that boils comfortably, we together love and respect it.
But as soon as a short circuit occurs that incapacitates all household appliances, or even serves as the cause of the fire, we begin to curse electricity, what does the light stand on without thinking: what does it really mean? But didn’t you, man, overlook the time and fixed the faulty wiring? Didn't you yourself become the source of this misfortune?
And so - in most cases. Everyone’s personal safety is easily passed on to someone’s shoulders and just as easily blamed on someone or something. Although all that’s needed is to be more careful, attentive, more discriminating in acquaintances and, “just like a fireman,” to know several protective techniques.
To be able to win, you need to know the enemy in person, to understand where he comes from and how, and what consequences may remain after meeting him. Not wanting to listen, wrapping my head in a blanket, thinking: “This can never happen to me,” we deliberately doom ourselves to defeat and to the unenviable role of the victim.
It is very wealthy people that ensure personal safety - the work of hired guards, they do not need to worry about anything. What about the rest?
Firstly, to stop being afraid of every rustle, but at the same time not to lose vigilance.
Secondly, remember what types of danger exist, from whom or from what they can come, and how to resist them.
The danger is always based on a certain factor:
- natural (cataclysms of various kinds: landslides, earthquakes, storms, rains, heat, snowfalls),
- social, it’s human (traffic accidents, criminal offenses or tragedies of the “apartment scale”: not turned off gas, forgotten hot iron, smoking in bed),
- technogenic (major accidents at enterprises).
Personal safety rules usually seem to people to be something akin to a table of chemical elements: everyone knows that it exists, everyone once taught it (or tried to teach it) and nobody uses it seriously in everyday life.
How much scammers adore gullible people! How subtle psychologists are they, who are able to calculate from the crowd the most unprotected (in most cases - unprotected)! What quality selective noodles hang on your ears, if only “your money became ours”!
Follow personal safety precautions even when visiting online stores. A popular type of shopping can turn into a bitter disappointment: they took the money, didn’t send the goods, they didn’t answer the calls, evaporated, disappeared. And what’s the most annoying: it’s almost impossible to find, such “owners” of outlets change their phone numbers in batches, register their stores under false names. For this procedure, you do not need a passport and recommendations - fortunately, the site designers are now full.
Personal safety may be in jeopardy if you are too fond of making acquaintances via the Internet, while remaining in the rainbow confidence that all the people are charming, that everyone on the other side of the monitor only wants to do more good to their neighbor, or that somewhere fabulous was waiting for you prince (princess). Communication on dating sites is permissible only through correspondence and only within the limits of decency.
If you begin to be frankly lured into a real tête-à-tête without really introducing yourself, either refuse or take all personal safety measures - this can be a trap.
Safety Lessons for the Youngest
Ensuring the personal safety of your child is perhaps the number one task for all parents.
Kids are very friendly, kind and trusting. A set of these wonderful qualities can do a disservice if you find yourself in the way of a child with a bad uncle or aunt with bad intentions. And there are, unfortunately, enough of them - the crisis has generated a lot of sophists (and perverts) who do not hesitate to make money on the most innocent creatures on Earth.
When you tell your baby why it is impossible to turn on the light and gas, what can happen if you don’t put on a swimming vest in the pool or on the river, why you need to wash your hands before eating, start (but very carefully and delicately) the topic “strangers”.
In a playful way, tell the child a story about one girl (take a doll for her sake for clarity), who did not obey her parents, opened the door for strangers, took candy from them, gave her mobile number and agreed to drive to the water park in a beautiful car. And the strangers turned out to be bad people, they wanted to give the girl Baba Yaga (Barmalei) to be torn to pieces, but her parents looked for her with the police and found her.
Try to make the ending of the story happy, and the plot a little hold the baby in suspense. Children perfectly remember the rules of personal safety if they were filed in an accessible form for them.
The roadway is traditionally the richest in a variety of emergency situations. Accident statistics call the number of car accidents, far exceeding rail and air accidents. Why is that? Why, when leaving or going onto a busy highway, people completely forget about the rules and begin to hurry, overtake, run across, hoping for a chance.
Well, there is no such rule of personal security designated by this primordially Russian word!
The main factor in the occurrence of an accident is nervousness and unjustified aggression both from the driver and the pedestrian. The most insignificant mistakes made by other road users are driving drivers crazy, plus traffic jams that prevent them from getting to work on time - 30% of accidents occur because the driver set out to “win” a piece of the road several meters long.
Therefore, the first of all road rules: be mutually polite and keep calm - this way you can save life.
My home is my castle?
It is impossible to be sure of your own safety even within the walls of your apartment. According to the logic of things, the house simply must be the safest place, but according to the statistics of the house, the vast majority of accidents occur: fires, asphyxiation with natural or carbon monoxide, poisoning with chemicals that make up medicines or detergents.
The basics of life safety are the same subject from the school curriculum, and parents often get “bad” on it. The reason is negligence.
Personal safety OBZH is a full-fledged science in acquiring valuable knowledge to maximize safety in everyday life and during emergencies. But no one believes that it can be used in practice. Hence all the problems.
Victims of street robbers
The most common crime situation is street robbery. Usually, an attacker finds a “suitable” victim, and at the moment when she does not expect an attack, she snatches a bag, a wallet, an expensive electronic gadget from her hands.
Often robbers are not even embarrassed at the presence of several witnesses nearby, who, as a rule, did not see or remember anything, and to chase after a “bandyuk”, most people have no such thoughts.
And although personal safety in criminogenic situations is an important nuance, no one has yet canceled helping someone else. Especially if he is confused, roared and in prostration.
Law enforcement agencies confirm the fact that such crimes, although difficult to solve, are not hopeless, therefore the best way is to write a statement, describe the offender, and interview witnesses. Perhaps the violator will be able to bring to justice sooner or later. The main thing is not to slacken, but to act.
Fear and panic - turn off!
More dangerous than any hurricane in nature is a mixture of fear and panic in the soul. People are killed not so much by the elements as by the inability to resist them, the horror in front of them, somewhere in the subconscious.
True, fear also has a positive side - it includes the instinct of self-preservation in a person, does not allow recklessness to lead. But as soon as fear passes that line beyond which the imagination disappears, and with it the ability to soberly assess the level of danger, it is necessary to get rid of it, otherwise it threatens to develop into its most dangerous forms - hysteria, for example.
A person should always be psychologically strong in any circumstances. Usually nothing bad happens to such individuals.
Ensuring personal safety OBZh is based on the same: warned - means armed. In principle, the observance of simple measures (turning off electrical appliances, not swimming for buoys, not walking alone in poorly lit streets) should be performed automatically.
If an emergency occurs
Emergencies can happen literally out of the blue, and then the personal safety of one person or group of people is directly threatened. To avoid panic and, as a result, even greater stress, one or several people need to improvise and make quick decisions, control themselves and the condition of others, do not lose heart and do not let others do it.
This section is for women. They are most susceptible to robbery. How to protect yourself with everyday items that might end up in your purse?
First advice: personal security of a person is undoubtedly the most important in any situation. But if you were attacked, do not be afraid to hurt an attacker - he deserved it. Think of yourself.
Umbrella. Quickly pull it out of your purse and open it between yourself and the attacker, creating a barrier. If its end is sharp - this is wonderful, you can damage the attacking face or neck a little and disable it temporarily.
Notepad can be used as a means of protection, striking the face with sharp corners.
Hair spray. Splash an attacker in the eye. The spray can also be thrown to someone through a window or into a car to trigger an alarm, and thus attract the attention of third parties. Another way - by spraying the varnish, you can set it on fire in parallel - you will get a mini flamethrower, after which the attacker will forget about his intentions.
